Pakistani Cleric: Shia-Sunni Unity Is the Bedrock of Islamic Brotherhood

Hojatoleslam Mohammad Imran Motahari, a Pakistani cleric, described Shia-Sunni unity and solidarity as a manifestation of Islamic brotherhood and stressed the need to strengthen affection, mutual respect, and avoidance of division among Muslims.

Hawzah News Agency- Hojatoleslam Mohammad Imran Motahari made the remarks in his Friday sermon delivered in Sadiqabad, Pakistan, describing Shia-Sunni unity and solidarity as a manifestation of Islamic brotherhood and emphasizing the need to strengthen affection, mutual respect, and avoidance of division among Muslims.

The presence of Sunni brothers in the first row of worshippers displayed a beautiful manifestation of Islamic brotherhood, mutual respect, and unity between Shia and Sunni.

Continuing his remarks, referring to the importance of unity and solidarity among Muslims, he recalled verse 103 of Surah Al-Imran and said: "God Almighty states in the Holy Quran: 'And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided'—that is, all of you hold fast to the divine rope and do not scatter."

The religious scholar emphasized: "This gathering is a symbol of Muslims' adherence to the teachings of the Holy Quran and demonstrates the importance of empathy, solidarity, and avoidance of disagreement and division in the Islamic community."

The Sadiqabad Friday prayer leader, emphasizing the lofty status of Islamic brotherhood, tolerance, and the unity of the Ummah in divine teachings and the conduct of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), stated: "The bond among Muslims is formed on the basis of monotheism, servitude to God, and shared religious values, and these commonalities can pave the way for strengthening fraternal relations and consolidating unity among them."

He added: "Spreading affection, brotherhood, and mutual respect among Muslims is a manifestation of the power and cohesion of the Islamic Ummah. Therefore, differences of opinion should not become a factor for distance and dispersion; rather, Muslims must strengthen the spirit of empathy and cooperation among themselves by relying on shared religious and national goals."

In conclusion, Hojatoleslam Mohammad Imran Motahari prayed for the strengthening of the unity of the Islamic Ummah, asking God Almighty to make such gatherings a cause for the expansion of brotherhood and affection among Muslims, to protect the Islamic Ummah from hatred, enmity, and division, and to keep it steadfast on the path of unity, empathy, and solidarity.
